I went to Mass at Noon at St. Pat’s to pray for the Church. I passed by some reporters. As I passed by, I said to myself, “these guys are going to ask me to comment.” I was almost up the steps, when I heard that shout, “Excuse me, sir.”
So I gave my two cents to the CBC. When he asked me about a more liberal Pope, I told him. “I don’t think that’s going to happen. The Holy Father appoints people that share his mind and outlook.”
Sorry, fellas, had to throw cold water on that idea.
My guess is that the next Pope is going to be even more “conservative” than Benedict.
It’s going to be a turning point Papacy. Bad news for Catholic politicians who support abortion. No Communion for you.
Socon or Bust officially endorses Cardinal Raymond Burke.
Fr. Z has some commentary here, including the prophesy of St. Malachy.

Cardinal Burke, the first thought that came to my mind too (after the shock wore off!).
I agree with Paycheck’s endorsement, but I don’t think it’s realistically going to happen. Is Burke fluent in Italian, by the way? It helps for a bishop to be able to speak the lingo of his diocese.
I think a more realistic choice would be Cardinal Bagnasco. The Church could do a lot worse:

I think an American Pope is exactly what we need to counter Obama.
Jack, Cardinal Burke had done some of his studies in Rome and also had worked in the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura for a number of years before JPII made him a bishop, so I’d think I’d be fairly safe in saying that’s probably not a problem.
I sure would love to be a fly on the wall in USCCB headquarters if Burke was to be elected Pope.
Fair enough. But I still say that Bagnasco is a more likely choice for the top job and he would be a good choice too. I encourage you to read his bio.
I totally agree with your endorsement and pray to God for it’s realization.
