What precisely are you suggesting as a realistic and tenable solution for gay Catholics who would like to remain active in their parish? Should they repress their sexuality–an integral element of who we all are as humans? Should gay Catholics pretend to be “cured” and then marry someone they may not be attracted to sexually, simply to satisfy people and the community around them? Should they live a life of loneliness, while watching from the outside how their friends and other parishioners around them live in loving relationships, raise children, see their kids grow up, grow old with grandchildren and a large supportive family around them? The gay, single Catholic will always be an outsider, suffering alone and in silence, going home after work to an empty house, living on the edge of a community and society built around relationships and structures that he/she can never have.
