Today on Parliament Hill, well over 15,000 Pro Lifers from across Ontario and Canada descended on Parliament Hill to witness to the dignity of the unborn child and call for the nation’s politicians to respect human life at its most vulnerable stages. This year’s March was much larger than last year’s which drew about 12,500 participants. In prior years, one picture would have been sufficient to capture 90% of the crowd.
Not this time around.
Standing on the steps on the Hill, I had to take three pictures in order to capture all of the participants in this year’s March. The WEBCAM shot to the immediate left was taken as the participants started to make their way to the streets, just past 1:30PM. Here’s a panaroma shot to give our readers a better idea of how large the crowd was.
The fact is that abortion is the most important issue of our time. People of faith and family know it. Our opponents know it. The only people who refuse to acknowledge it are the politicans who give us lame excuses that we should not be re-opening this debate, as if this issue was a settled issue.
Well, the reality is, it’s not settled. 15,000 people (on a work day and a school day no less) say it’s not settled. And every year we will see this number grow and grow and grow. The March for Life is easily the largest, annual political gathering of Canadians in this country. And yet, how strange it is that the largest political gathering of Canadians does not get the respect it deserves from the politicians, especially considering that the polls favour our cause with over two-thirds of Canadians favouring at least some protection for the unborn. We don’t even get the dignity of having a debate on this issue, let alone passing even a modest law in a country which has no abortion law, where it’s open season on the unborn until moments before birth.
The “Bathroom Bill” gets debated in this country. Tearing a child limb from limb gets put on the shelf.
Be that as it may, change is coming, sooner or later, whether Mr. Harper likes it or not.
It might not be this year. It might not be next year. But sooner or later, our numbers are going to hit critical mass. Perhaps when we occupy every square inch of Parliament Hill and overflow on to the streets, maybe then we’ll finally have a chance to be heard in Parliament when we raise our voices outside and the volume reaches such a high pitch that they won’t be able to conduct their “important business” because of it.
Indeed, in the days leading up to the March, we even saw some of the main stream press actually start to cover the March. And for the first time ever, even the CBC and CTV had their trucks on Parliament Hill, even though at the time of this writing, there has been no report on it from them that I’ve seen. Same old biased garbage from a media which is quickly losing any credibility or relevance…as if their reporting has any real traction anymore with Canadians. On the other hand, other media voices, including LifeSiteNews (see their coverage here), Dunn Media, SunTV, TalkRadio, and us bloggers are filling in the void. The reality is that people of faith and family are now inoculated from socially liberal reporting. We know how the media manipulates their stories, and we’re not buying it anymore. We don’t even watch their coverage…even if they would actually report the story.
And remember, folks, the Mayor of Ottawa even declared today “Respect for Life” Day. It might be a rubber stamp to some, but a rubber stamp doesn’t have the City of Ottawa’s seal on it, does it? And even if it were just a rubber stamp, the rubber stamp implicitly recognizes that the Pro-Life Movement is now mainstream. And when you have a mainstream movement, you can have a debate.
Regardless of what the talking heads in the media and Stephen Harper say,
The Debate is On!

This picture was taken while my family and I were still on Parliament Hill near the back of the crowd. The crowd was so large that it had circled several city blocks while marchers were still on the Hill still waiting to leave. In future years, the March route might have to be enlarged.
TRUTH ON THE BACK OF A SHIRT:
FREE CONDOMS OFFERED. BUT NO TAKERS. THAT’S WHAT GOT THEM THEIR ABORTIONS IN THE FIRST PLACE. EVERYONE KNOWS CONDOMS DON’T WORK. CONDOMS ARE GOOD FOR BALLOONS BUT THAT’S ABOUT IT.
SOCON OR BUST IS REFRAINING FROM POSTING THE BARE-BREASTED YOUNG WOMEN WHO THOUGHT THEIR BREASTS SOMEHOW WOULD CONVINCE US OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF ABORTION. FOR MANY OF THESE WOMEN, SADLY, IT’S NOW BECOME A SELF-JUSTIFICATION ISSUE RATHER THAN ABOUT ABORTION ITSELF. WHEN YOU’VE HAD AN ABORTION OR COUNSELLED A WOMAN TO HAVE ONE, IT’S ALL ABOUT SELF-JUSTIFICATION.
