Socialists in Spain stamp out free speech

July 29th, 2010 by Steve G

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any crazier, we break a new record on the dumb-ometer. It’s worse than dumb. It’s outright evil.

In Spain, a TV network called Intereconomia has just been fined by the socialist government for ads that allegedly “attack the dignity” of homosexuals.  Sounds pretty serious, eh?  So what horrible things did the TV network show in its ads?  After all, as Christians, we may disagree with the homosexual lifestyle, but we still want to show them respect.  So what heinous ads did the TV network show?

Nine months later: Still waiting for CCCB to act on pro-life promises

July 28th, 2010 by Steve G

At the end of their last Plenary Assembly, on October 23, 2009, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops expressed their desire to be more involved in pro-life work.  That was welcome news at the time.  However, last week marked 9 months since that lofty promise and we haven’t seen much action.  On the contrary, we’ve seen regression.  That being said, it’s still not too late to move forward.

Anglican communion becomes dog food?

July 28th, 2010 by Steve G

Just when you think you’ve seen it all…

An Anglican priest has apologized for offering communion to a dog, but the act has repercussions for a Church already divided by liberalization measures.

Communists angry after Kerala bishops urge vote for ‘God-fearing’ candidates

July 21, 2010

Bishops in Kerala– the southwestern Indian state that has been the Church’s stronghold in India since its evangelization by St. Thomas the Apostle– told the faithful in a July 18 pastoral letter to vote for “good, capable, and God-fearing” candidates.

The bishops’ letter prompted a rebuke from Thomas Isaac, the state’s Communist finance minister, who accused the bishops of “meddling in politics.” The Communist Party of India has more members in Kerala than in any other Indian state.

“We are not against religion but we will resist the move of religious leaders interfering in politics,” said Isaac. (Source)

Fr. Gravel’s distortions: Divine Revelation and Truth

July 27th, 2010 by Steve G

In an earlier post, we looked at how Fr. Raymond Gravel butchered the Church’s teaching on the Eucharist.  Today we gain some insight into his views of Truth and Divine Revelation.  Once again, we’ll rely Fr. Gravel’s own words.

After ditching euthanasia, Parliament considers positive alternatives

July 26th, 2010 by Steve G

Parliamentarians, who defeated a bill to legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide last spring, are now stuyding what pushes people to want to kill themselves in order to develop positive alternatives, such as palliative care, support for people with disabilities and the elderly.  This is a hugely encouraging development, another sign that pro-life forces are shaking things up. New study: Abortion triples breast cancer risk

July 25th, 2010 by Steve G

From the Mail Online.  Abortion=bad.  Breastfeeding=good.

An abortion can triple a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer in later life, researchers say. A team of scientists made the claim while carrying out research into how breastfeeding can protect women from developing the killer disease. While concluding that breastfeeding offered significant protection from cancer, they also noted that the highest reported risk factor in developing the disease was abortion. Other factors included the onset of the menopause and smoking. The findings, published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, are the latest research to show a link between abortion and breast cancer. The research was carried out by scientists at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka. It is the fourth epidemiological study to report such a link in the past 14 months, with research in China, Turkey and the U.S. showing similar conclusions. (Source)

Abortion clinic buckles under exorcism prayers

July 24th, 2010 by Steve G

The video below shares a very uplifting story and illustrates the power of the prayer of priests. Four priests positioned themselves at the four corners of an abortion facility in Illinois and started praying a powerful prayer of exorcism.  Interesting stuff started to happen almost immediately.  Watching the video below.  Two key points to take away from this incident: Read the rest of this entry »

Thousands Support Catholic Prof Fired for Explaining Church Teaching on Homosexuality

July 24th, 2010 by Steve G

It’s great to see people mobilize to defend an innocent man who was unjustly dismissed by autocratic thugs.  Keep up the good work.  We need more of this.

By Kathleen Gilbert

URBANA, Illinois, July 19, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A University of Illinois professor fired for explaining the Catholic Church’s teaching on homosexuality has gathered several thousands of students, alumni, and others – including the head of the the University’s atheist club – demanding that the Catholic professor be reinstated. (Source)

The university will be investigating the firing of Dr. Kenneth Howell.  I suggest you drop them a line to put in your 2 cents worth:

The real meaning of sex

July 23rd, 2010 by Steve G

Many people have the impression that the Catholic Church thinks sex is bad.  This belief may have been reinforced by some over-reactions by members of the Church to the abuses of sexuality that have occurred in the last 50 years.  However, the Church actually teaches that sexual union, when properly understood, is very good.  It is sacred, beautiful and glorious! US government pushing for pro-abortion constitution in Kenya

July 21st, 2010 by Steve G

Hmmm…  This sounds awfully familiar…  But I can’t seem to connect the dots…

By Peter J. Smith

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 19, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – With Kenya’s pivotal referendum on a new pro-abortion constitution just a few weeks away, three pro-life congressmen have brought forward more evidence that the U.S. federal government has heavily invested in procuring the approval of the document – to the tune of $28 million. The U.S. has also enlisted pro-abortion groups to convince Kenyans to approve the constitution, they said, despite the existence of federal laws prohibiting such activity. (Source)

Ah yes!  Of course!  Isn’t this the same as what Development and Peace is doing in many countries of the Global South?  I.e. funding pro-abortion groups that are lobbying to overturn legislation in order to legalize abortion?  We’ve certainly seen it in the Philippines, Peru, El Salvador and East Timor, to name a few off the top of my head.

Actually, in the case of East Timor, the pro-aborts succeeded and abortion was legalized under some circumstances in June 2009.  The blood of those babies is on our hands.

Political Mobilization: Two upcoming events

July 21st, 2010 by Pacheco

This seminar will run from 7 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The seminar is offered by the Canadian Centre for Policy Studies and will be delivered by Garnett Genuis. Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: St. Maurice Atrium
Street: 4 Perry St
City/Town: Ottawa, ON

2) School, Sodomy, and Your Kids:

If you are one of the few parents who still have their heads in the sand about the serious “sex” threats of the publicly funded school system (Catholic or Secular) to your children, then it’s time for you to a) wake up and b) get mobilized and do something about it. Personally, I think it’s too late, but there are those who think the system is still worth fighting for. So I’m passing on these initiatives to help them out….

Concerned Catholic Parents of Ottawa: Mobilization for the upcoming trustee elections - Yes, that’s right. There are things called “elections” where you can actually vote for politicians called “trustees” who actually help shape the direction of Catholic education of your children. This October 25, be sure to get out and vote in the municipal elections. Better yet, get informed about where your trustee candidate stands (if he’s just there to maintain the status quo or if he is willing to stand up to the Homosexualists at Queer’s Park). Better still, consider running as a trustee, yourself. If not you, then who? Check out this website of a concerned father here in Ottawa who is trying to do something about it:

Democracy fading in D.C.

July 21st, 2010 by Steve G

This has to be the most extremist abuse of judicial activism ever.  The court decides that the citizens of a democracy do not have the right to vote in a referendum on the definition of marriage.

Is there no recourse for the citizens against a dictatorship by the court?  This is very alarming.  Read this news excerpt.  More of my commentary below.

People Have no Right to Vote on Gay ‘Marriage’ Rules D.C. Appeals Court

By John Jalsevac

WASHINGTON, July 15, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In a 5-4 decision, the D.C. Court of Appeals held today that the residents of Washington D.C. do not have the right to vote on the issue of same-sex “marriage,” and that allowing a vote on the issue would amount to allowing “discrimination.”

The decision is the latest in a lengthy battle by Stand 4 Marriage DC, a coalition of the federal district’s religious leaders led by Bishop Harry Jackson of Hope Christian Church, to put the issue of gay “marriage” to a vote by the people.

In May of 2009 the 13 members of the D.C. City Council voted to recognize same-sex “marriages” that were performed in other U.S. states, after which Stand 4 Marriage appealed to allow a referendum on the issue.

However, their efforts have been blocked every step of the way, with local bureaucrats and judges repeatedly deciding that putting same-sex “marriage” to a popular vote would violate the human rights of homosexuals.

In June 2009, the capital district’s Board of Elections and Ethics ruled “that the Referendum does not present a proper subject of referendum because it would authorize discrimination prohibited under the Human Rights Act.”

On December 15 of last year, the city council voted 11-2 to pass a bill that would legalize all same-sex “marriages” in D.C. in addition to those contracted in other states. The law went into effect on March 3.

In January the D.C. Superior Court agreed with the city’s ethics board, saying that, “The fact that the proposed initiative, if passed, would violate the Human Rights Act provides an independent basis for upholding the Board’s decision.” (Source)

A vote on the definition of marriage would be “discrimination”?  By whose standards?  The so-called “Human Rights Act”?  And exactly who defined the “Human Rights Act”, which the bureaucrats and courts hold as so sacred that you’d think the Governor received it written on tablets of stone from atop a mountain?  If it’s an Act, it must have been passed by the State legislature, right?  Doesn’t that mean a vote?  Er, yeah!  So why is a vote in favour of gay “marriage” considered okay, but a vote that could overturn such a provision becomes intolerable?

What kind of one-way democracy is this?  Is anybody paying attention?

All or Nothing

July 21st, 2010 by Pacheco

With all of the heretical garbage being reported on by Socon or Bust lately, I thought I’d pop back in here and post the above clip to re-affirm us in the truth of our Faith.

But let us not take our eye of the ball, either.  There are many Catholics who like to keep their heads in the sand. That’s why exposing darkness remains one of Socon or Bust’s central purpose - to remove our heads from the sand.  Nevertheless, we must never lose hope in Jesus or the Church, even though many of her ministers, like Fr. Gravel and his bishop, are in total darkness.

Fr. Gravel’s distortions: the Eucharist

July 20th, 2010 by Steve G

Fr. Raymond Gravel’s dissent on abortion and homosexuality is well documented.  However, few people are aware that he dissents in many other areas of Catholic teaching.  This shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, Catholic teachings are very intertwined and linked, such that you will rarely find a person who dissents on just a single element teaching. Dissent comes in bunches.

Fr.Gravel has been whining recently that good people like LifeSiteNews are “misquoting” him.  So we’ll look directly at his own writings and see how his own pen proves his betrayal of the Faith he vowed to serve.  Today, we look at a crucial aspect of the Catholic faith with which Fr. Gravel is at odds: the Eucharist.
