Gender Ideology Outted by The Vatican

March 10th, 2010 by Pacheco

The Vatican’s representative at the UN has denounced gender ideology, saying that the approach has harmed rather than helped women.

Speaking at a UN session on gender equality, Archbishop Celestino Migliore said that the gender ideology “is is proving increasingly ideologically driven, and actually delays the true advancement of women.”

The gender approach, the archbishop said, seeks to “dissolve every specificity and complementarity between men and women.” Moreover, the documents produced by UN conferences in recent years have often ascribed “to a notion of sexual and reproductive health and rights which is violent to unborn human life and is detrimental to the integral needs of women and men within society,” he said.

Archbisop Migliore acknowleged that women “continue to suffer in many parts of the world” because of unjust discrimination and “violence in the form of female feticide, infanticide, and abandonment.” The solution, however, is not to impose an artificial equality that disregards the true dignity of womanhood, he insisted.

“A solution respectful of the dignity of women does not allow us to bypass the right to motherhood,” the Vatican envoy said; “but commits us to promoting motherhood by investing in and improving local health systems and providing essential obstetrical services.” (Source)

As I have been pointing out for quite some time on this blog,  the whole “social justice” gig has a lot of neo-Marxist ideology ingrained it.  Readers know all too well of the activities of Development & Peace, but as I pointed out in this entry, it’s not just about Development & Peace.  It’s actually about how the social justice clique is running the “charity” business not only in Canada but around the world.  The corruption of Catholic teaching on genuine development and aid towards women and children is so staggering that it boggles the mind.

Family breakdown costing £41 billion a year: report

March 9th, 2010 by Pacheco

Family breakdown is costing UK taxpayers £41 billion a year, according to new report.

Among the costs are £12.38bn for tax and benefits payments to broken families and £8.03bn for civil and criminal justice spending, according to the study.

Think-tank, the Relationships Foundation produced the report, which put the cost to individual taxpayers at £1,350 a year.  The Cambridge-based organisation said that family breakdown “reduces health, wealth and wellbeing.”  It added that in the current economic situation the cost is “unsustainable.”

The final totals were arrived at by adding together a number of different costs to the taxpayer that come about as a result of family breakdown.  Executive Director of Relationships Foundation, Michael Trend, said, “This report deals with the unpopular truth that choices have costs and consequences, and that these are not always borne by the choice-maker.”

He said, “Reduced health, wealth and wellbeing all put more pressure on relationships making the cycle of breakdown more likely to continue.”

Tory leader David Cameron has recently called Britain a “broken society,” saying family breakdown is at the root of many of the problems facing the country.  And at the weekend a poll for The Times newspaper showed 70 per cent of respondents believed society is now broken.

At the beginning of this month social commentator Melanie Phillips, writing in the Daily Mail, drew attention to the need to encourage marriage in order to halt a breakdown in moral and social behaviour.  She said the erosion of marriage was key to the “disintegration” of the family and wider society, and that the only solution was to protect the institution with “a web of formal and informal laws, conventions and attitudes.”

In 2008 a report from the Good Childhood Inquiry identified family relationships as being central to children’s wellbeing.  One the report’s authors commented that it is not just the event of family breakdown itself but also the life that has to be lived afterwards that causes harm.

Later in 2008 Barbara Wilding, then Chief Constable of South Wales Police, said family breakdown was driving teenagers into a “gang culture based on violence and drugs.”

Last year the Shadow Home Secretary blamed the devaluing of marriage for producing a generation of children who do not know right from wrong.  Chris Grayling said in a speech at Westminster, “Family breakdown has reached a scale where many young people grow up with no vestige of stability in their lives, and no concept of a family-focused upbringing.” (Source)

I think I’ll go postal when the next “economic conservative” tells me that social conservative issues aren’t that important to him.

Report from the Front

March 9th, 2010 by Pacheco

Dearest Friends in Christ,

Thank you for your continued support. We have one week left and we need your continued prayers. I am sad to report –but not surprised- that there is a very strong and overt anti-Catholic/Christian message being spread here at many of the side events. We have ordained priestesses present- Catholics for Choice made a direct attack against the US Bishops -to a packed house-accusing them of manipulating the political system and harming women .  Planned Parenthood is also espousing  the general message -along with many other like minded groups- that the moral voice –especially the Catholic Church – must be eliminated and everyone will attain freedom. In their speak freedom translates into abortion and sexual rights. This is not my opinion. This is what these people are stating as fact.

My daughter attended a session where she was given a pamphlet  instructing  that sex is a ‘right’ for young people. T he pamphlet instructed that if a young person is infected with HIV sex becomes even more pleasurable once they become comfortable with their status. Plus an infected person is not obligated to report this to their partners, rather it is the partners responsibility to know the health of the sex partner.

On a positive note, my daughter was interviewed for a documentary to be shown at the UN tomorrow in Conference 1. She promotes a positive message on motherhood and shared her experience attending the sessions promoting sexual rights for minors-or young persons.

The Canadian Cabinet Minister for the Status of Women , Helena Guergis presented Canada’s General Statement. Part of the message affirmed that Canada will support Third World Nations with clean water and similar projects that will minimize or eliminate the causes for maternal mortality in Third World countries. This is a positive step in the right direction. She was hissed and booed at by  feminist Canadians in attendance-very inappropriate behavior in the gallery- quite an embarrassing face to demonstrate for member nations as Canadians- another story for another time.

I, my daughter and another young lady on our team had approximately five minutes with the minister. This is very positive because we were able to express our support and encourage the Canadian government to continue their direction to help women attain freedom, supply money to alleviate or eradicate real health issues that cause them to die in child birth and reduce infant mortality rate. She was very responsive and interactive with us. This is the fruit of your prayers.

Please do not forget about us this week. This is the week of negotiations. We need prayer at this time more than ever.

Blessings,

T.

Time for a Sterilization Tax

March 8th, 2010 by Pacheco

The

in a Coal Mine.

No children? No work force.  Unsustainable social programs.  Economic collapse.

It’s time for Western goverments to consider a sterility tax for all of the free-loaders who expect “the government” to pay for their entitlements without the necessary workforce to support those entitlements.

I say…

500% tax on contraceptives.

Major tax incentives for families who have many children.  The more children you have, the less tax you pay.  A future workforce, after all, is essential to the growth and continued existence of the State.

Sterilization and masturbation, we are finding out, have their own social and economic costs.  And they are not unsubstantial.

Angie the Atheist Finds Out Abortion Isn’t So Great

March 8th, 2010 by Pacheco

Sad. Really Sad.

I guess she never thought of the beautiful possibilities for her first disabled child…that in the long run, the child she aborted would have been loving support for both her and current special needs child.

But, you know, it’s all about choices…and blood…and destroying unborn life.

Real Bigotry

March 8th, 2010 by Pacheco

In this victimhood culture with the prostitution of the word “bigotry”, we sometimes forget what real bigotry is.  Here’s a friendly reminder…

Father James E. Coyle, an extraordinary priest and Knight of Columbus in the early 20th century, courageously stood up against widely-held anti-Catholic views at the risk, and then cost, of his life.

The Irish-born priest was scarcely in his 20s when, after his ordination in Rome, he was dispatched to Alabama to begin his priesthood. The Catholic population in Alabama had exploded with a promise of jobs, especially in and around Birmingham’s network of coal mines, steel mills and iron foundries. Father Coyle arrived in the city shortly before a wave of anti-Catholicism flooded the country, and the revived Ku Klux Klan (KKK) rebranded itself as a “patriotic” fraternity, targeting blacks, Catholics, Jews and foreigners….Read the rest here.

Gay Activists Prohibit Catholic Worship

March 1st, 2010 by Pacheco

‘S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, March 1, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Hundreds of homosexual activists flocked to Mass at St. John’s Cathedral in ’s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) on Sunday to challenge the bishop for his support of a priest in Reusel who denied Communion to an openly practicing homosexual.

The protesters joined the Mass wearing pink triangles, and some came dressed in pink wigs and gowns.  Most of the throng walked out, shouting and singing, during the homily, which was given by Fr. Geertjan van Rossem.

“Homosexuals are welcome in the church. But we ask practising homosexuals not to take part in communion out of respect for the sacrament,” he said, according to DutchNews.nl.

Anticipating the protest, the diocese announced that Communion would not be distributed.  In his homily, Fr. van Rossem explained that he was “compelled by conscience” to not offer Communion because it would be a “grave sacrilege” that the Holy Eucharist would become an object of protest and demonstration.  Instead, he urged the congregation to make a spiritual communion.

The protest was organized by local politicians and various homosexualist organizations in the country after a smaller protest had been carried off at Sunday Mass in Reusel the week before.  They were protesting the decision of the pastor, Fr. Luc Buyens, to withhold Communion from Gijs Vermeulen,  who had flaunted his homosexuality leading up to his participation in the town’s annual pre-Lenten carnival as its prince.

The homosexualists directed their protest at the Cathedral because the Bishop of Den Bosch, Antoon Hurkmans, had supported Fr. Buyens, and had advised him not to distribute Communion to anyone at Sunday’s Mass just over a week ago.

The activists are vowing to continue attending Masses in protest.

Kees van der Staaij, a member of the country’s Reformed Political Party (known as SGP), called the protests “criminal acts” and has asked the Public Prosecutors’ Office to carry out a law that forbids disturbing a church service.

Remember what I said.

Archbishop of Ottawa: D&P “must distance itself” from its pro-abort friends

March 1st, 2010 by Pacheco

….

Concern was expressed at the time of last year’s Share Lent collection that CCODP partners were promoting abortion and contraception.

Because of this, Archbishop Prendergast noted, “the bishops agreed there would be a collection this year while the bishops were working on reflecting with them on the Pope’s latest social justice encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, and addressing the concerns that had surfaced.”

He said the committee must be allowed to do its work and the bishops must not send any mixed signals about their unconditional support for this year’s collection, but the agency must distance itself from any partners whose abortion advocacy “clearly gives mixed witness because we are associated with them.”

CCODP executive director Michael Casey was upbeat about the future of the organization.

A campaign to bring relief to Haiti after that country’s devastating earthquake was highly successful, raising the profile of CCODP across the country, he said. Close to $5 million was raised by the Feb. 12 government deadline for matching funds.

An ad hoc committee of bishops set up to provide oversight to CCODP met for the first time Feb. 8.

“We’re off to a very positive and good start with them,” said CCODP executive director Michael Casey, who reported a “very amicable discussion” in an interview shortly after the meeting.

The agency is in the midst of developing a new five-year plan that has energized membership, he added, and has discussed with overseas groups espousing immoral issues ways to find a common understanding.

“There has to be a very concrete awareness of our Catholic identity,” he said. “Catholic principles have to be central to the relationship.” (Source)

The Archbishop of Ottawa has now officially recognized that Development & Peacemust distance itself” from its pro-abort partners.  It remains to be seen, however, how this directive is actually going to be implemented. There are over 40 groups which Socon or Bust has identified as being anti-family or anti-Catholic. Many of these groups are also pro-abortion to a greater or lesser extent.

The bishops of Canada need to understand that it will not be enough to give general principles and directives.  The lay faithful want to see some CONCRETE ACTION in Development & Peace disassociating from ALL (or nearly ALL) of the groups identified thusfar.

Theoretically speaking, folks, since Development & Peace is essentially a Marxist political organization masquerading as a Catholic relief agency, this should mean a total make-over of the organization.  Why? Because many if not most of Development & Peace’s organizations are Marxist-leaning and are therefore pro-abortion and anti-Catholic.  So if the bishops are serious about purging the pro-abortion influence from D&P’s partners, the organization itself is essentially a dead letter as far as its current constitution goes.   But we’ll see just how serious the bishops are and what kind of intestinal fortitude they have.

By the way, did you get a kick out of Michael Casey’s last comment in the article about “Catholic principles having to be central to the relationship”?  Well, it’s a wonderful thing indeed that the executive director of Canada’s official Catholic aid agency has finally clued into this minor detail.

However, the question I have is this:

Just what the hell was it supposed to be before this eureka?

The Canadian Marxist development bank, perhaps?

Bishop of Peterborough Gives Catholics Option of Refusing Donations to D&P

March 1st, 2010 by Pacheco

PETERBOROUGH, ON, February 22, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A third Canadian bishop has announced restrictions on funding to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P).

Peterborough Bishop Nicola De Angelis has announced that in addition to withholding a nominal amount (10%) from the 2009 Lenten collection from D&P, he has instituted an option on the 2010 collection allowing Catholics to decide against funding D&P.

The Bishop has instructed parishes in the diocese to use Lenten collection envelopes which give parishioners the option to select that their funds go to either “Development & Peace” or “Other Charities.”

Previously the collection was taken up specifically for D&P.

Like Toronto’s Archbishop Collins and Pembroke’s Bishop Mulhall, Bishop De Angelis has undertaken the funding restriction in response to LifeSiteNews’ (LSN) investigative reports which found D&P to be funding pro-abortion groups.

All three bishops noted that they are awaiting the conclusions of an ad hoc committee of bishops studying the matter.  A report from the ad hoc committee is expected to be presented at the Plenary Session of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) in the fall.

Earlier this month the ad hoc committee had their first meeting to discuss the matter with executives from Development and Peace.

On February 15, LSN made an offer to meet with the Bishops on the ad hoc committee but it was declined, at least for now.  It is the third offer of dialogue LSN has made to Canadian Bishops conferences or committees since the official report of the CCCB Committee of Inquiry recommended in July 2009 that there be a “frank and transparent dialogue between Lifesite and the Bishops of Canada.” The bishops have yet to take up any of the LifeSiteNews offers responding to their request for dialogue.

The four bishops named to the committee are: Bishop Fred Henry of Calgary; Archbishop Pierre-Andre Fournier of Rimouski; Archbishop Andre Gaumond of Sherbrooke; and Bishop John Boissonneau, Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto.

“A Preferential Option for the Unborn”

February 26th, 2010 by Pacheco

We’ve all heard of the phrase “preferential option for the poor”.  Well now it turns out that Bishop Nicola De Angelis of the diocese of Peterborough has decided to opt for another kind of preference – the option of permitting Catholics in his diocese to decline giving money to the pro-aborts in the Global South. While this is not the best solution, it is a good step in the right direction.  First of all, it means a loss of revenue for Development & Peace.  To what degree is yet to be determined, but even if it was a salutory percentage – say 20% – that is 20% less funds the pro-aborts will be getting from Peterborough. That is a small, but practical victory for us.  Secondly, the Catholic Church is now officially recognizing the thousands of Canadians who have previously refused to give to Development & Peace because of their Marxist slant.  Until Bishop De Angelis’s initiative, faithful, knowledgeable Catholics had no way of officially participating in the Share Lent campaign because all of the money was going to Development & Peace.  Now there is an option – perhaps we can call it a “preferential option of the unborn” – to redirect that money to truly life-saving and life-affirming efforts, perhaps even towards overtly pro-life causes too!  Thirdly, Bishop De Angelis’s action provides us with the critical momentum to keep on moving forward.  He is now the third bishop to take pro-active measures to address the abortion scandal of Development & Peace.  It is my hope that we use this momentum to convince other bishops to move to restrict the management decisions of Development & Peace, an organization which has never admitted to the facts of funding pro-abortion groups in the Global South.

Gaining Momentum Against D&P’s Abortion Partners

February 26th, 2010 by Pacheco

Folks, check out this site which another Catholic blogger has started.  (These damn trouble-making Catholic bloggers are revolutionizing the Church!)

The time is right now to ask your bishop to join the list of bishops restricting the enabling of abortion advocacy in the Global South.  We need to pick up on the recent momentum and finish the job

March 21 is the Lenten Collection here in Ottawa. For Ottawa residents, I ask you to write to Archbishop Prendergast and respectfully ask him to follow the lead of Toronto and Pembroke.   Ask for a public statement also.  Catholics have a right to know where their money is going.  So far, the bishops have not been forthcoming with this information despite the overwhelming evidence against Development & Peace.  Frankly, I’m not sure which is a greater scandal:  the fact that Canadian Catholic money is going to pro-abort groups or the fact that the bishops continue to keep Canadian Catholics in the dark about it!

It’s matter of trust.  Stress that fact in your letter to them. Once you break trust in a relationship, it spells a lot of pain and suffering in the future.  If we can’t trust them with something so basic as this issue, what right have we got to trust them on anything at all?

Write the letter. Do it today.

Politicians: Afraid No More To Break the Silence in the MSM

February 25th, 2010 by Pacheco

…In a letter in the Canadian Medical Association Journal in 2009, Dr. Rene Leiva cites a 2006 Salvadorian Ministry of Health study. Until 1998, abortion was legal in El Salvador and the maternal mortality ratio was calculated to be 150 per 100,000 births. Abortions were no longer legally permitted after 1998, and by 2006 the maternal mortality ratio had dropped to 71.2, or by more than 50 per cent.

Guyana, with virtually no restrictions on abortions, has the highest maternal mortality ratio in South America. According to the World Economic Forum report, its maternal mortality rate is 30 times higher than in Chile, where abortion is illegal.

There is also research evidence that abortion can have a detrimental impact on a woman’s psychological health. In a 2008 study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research, researchers linked abortion to “an increased risk of a variety of mental health problems (panic attacks, panic disorder, agoraphobia, PTSD, bipolar disorder, major depression with or without hierarchy) and substance abuse disorders.”…(Source)
