I haven’t been able to get out to pray much at Ground Zero during this campaign. I have had excessive work committments. It’s been very frustrating. Every time that I think I’ll get a chance to head down to Ground Zero, something comes up. I see the Ground Zero reports, post them on the site, send out the email notices, get the secret correspondences which most of you don’t see (and which I cannot release because of the potential mole on the email list), maintain the vigil calendar, upload the pictures, post the reports from America (which I don’t have the time to read) etc.
I’m a machine. Point, Click, Drag, Copy, Paste. Over and over again. Tedious, monotonous, repetitive.
But it’s my way to holiness. I’m trapped behind this darn keyboard, but it’s a “prison” I wouldn’t trade for anything. Somebody’s gotta do it. Everyone has a part to play. You have your part too. Don’t forget it, either. Every person who has been called to witness and to pray and to work behind the scenes is participating in the most important human drama in all of history. It’s encapsulated in our little piece of concrete sidewalk in front of 65 Bank Street. 12ft by 8ft. That’s about the size of real estate that 40 Day vigilers occupy on the other side of Bank Street every day. But it might very well represent the most important piece of real estate in Ottawa and even Canada in the light of eternity.
I did finally get out yesterday and spent a very therapeutic hour there. When I arrived, I reached into my pocket, and pulled out the rosary that I had quickly snatched on the way out the door earlier that morning. When my eyes fell on the end of the rosary, I noticed that the rosary, made of wood and thread, had lost the crucifix. What was left were merely the wooden beads and the frayed end where the crucifix should be. I stared at that frayed end for some time but immediately realized the significance of my severed rosary to the aborted unborn child.
Let us not waver in our committment to this most honourable cause because, in due course, with God’s grace, we shall overcome the barbarity of abortion.
