Shout out to all of the Socon or Bust readers who said hello to me on Saturday at another very successful fundraiser for the Children of Paraguay, a Socon or Bust-endorsed  Catholic charity.  Children of Paraguay was started by Rosa Frias. You can learn about Rosa’s story here.

I can assure you that she does not make $120K-160K, unlike other social justice head honchos. In fact, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t draw one dime out of the proceeds that C.O.P. collects. I’m pretty sure that she’s donated thousands of hours and lots of her own money to help those children in Limpio, Paraguay.

But then again, there’s Catholic charity and the there’s the fraud of “social justice” — two very, very different things.

My girls danced again and were much appreciated by the audience.

I obtained your coordinates through a friend of mine. The reason I am writing to you is to get a clearer picture regarding Development and Peace organization. I am rather confused and don’t know anymore who to believe.

I have been a member of this organization for a very long time In fact I represent my church, the <Parish> located on <Location> at the Diocesan level. What confuses most is that this organization is supported by our Archdiocese in Ottawa and yet I hear some conflicting news. We are approaching Christmas and my pile of correspondence seeking donations is already eight inches high. I heard on the Lang/O’Leary show that one needs to clear his/her own debts first before giving donations and one need not support more than 2 or three charities.  By the end of December I lose count to what I have given and to whom. But that is not what I am writing to you about. Is Development and Peace which claims to support the works and poor of the Global South a legitimate organization. Should I spend my time and money and effort for this organization? And, is it true that this organization supports abortion? Please shed some light and educate me.

Dear “Josephine”,

Thank you for your question. Development & Peace is not a legitimate Catholic organization.  They are a leftist social justice front group that advances questionable causes like radical environmentalism and enables pro-abortion and anti-Catholic groups world-wide.  Here is the list of the pro-abortion, anti-life groups that they have sponsored in the past.  Despite repeated requests, they have still not released the names of their most recent partners because they fear closer scrutiny and transparency.  In fact, Money Sense magazine gave them a very poor rating in the past, and the Canadian government cut their funding by 64%.  You can read about it here.   They are an organization in free-fall and they have no business calling themselves Catholic in any way.

They are a disgrace to the Catholic Church.

If you are looking for a worthwhile Catholic aid organization, I have two suggestions for you:  Chalice and Children of Paraguay. Socon or Bust supports both of these organizations completely, as they are faithful to the teachings of the Church on the sanctity of human life.  Many Socon or Bust readers support children in the developing world through Chalice, and we are currently helping the Children of Paraguay with their annual fundraiser

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Christ,

John Pacheco

This Lent, remember not to give to the abortion-pushers of Development & PeaceThree years going and the problem still exists.  Social justice is still running over the unborn.

Children of Paraguay is a Catholic charity which spends its money in the service of authentic Catholic teaching, with little admin costs.

It’s real social justice, without the abortion-eco-marxist baggage.

Update: $375 in bids + $375 in donations = $750 raised (Dec.9, 5PM).

Many thanks to all of you who have participated in our little fundraiser. Would have liked to reach our goal, but $750 isn’t bad considering the little time we had to promote our fundraiser and considering the time of year.

Socon or Bust…doing its part to redeem the fraud of modern “social justice”.

Some pics for you to enjoy….

As many of our readers know, the Social Justice industry in the Catholic Church has given us Catholics a very poor reputation.  It was not always like this, of course.  At one time the Catholic Church was almost totally devoted to doing the basics of genuine charitable work.  Today, however, instead of engaging in authentic charitable activities like poverty relief, the professionals are busy funding pro-abort, pro-contraception, pro-socialist, anti-Catholic groups in the Global South.  And when they’re not engaging in this behaviour, they’re out there pushing avante guard causes like “gender mainstreaming“, “climate justice”, and making sure we all do our part to cool the earth.  All of this spending, of course, is financed by ignorant Catholics in the pew.

Some Socon or Bust readers have contacted me to find out where they can donate to a true Catholic charity that is faithful to ALL of the Church’s teachings.  This past summer,  I decided to get my own puck.  I discovered an organization which is indeed worthy of our support. It’s called Children of Paraguay and it now represents Socon or Bust’s officially endorsed charity for poverty relief and human development.  Their first project is to raise money for a community center and medical clinic to serve the poor in a village in Paraguay.  So far, they’re almost half-way there.

We’re going to try and raise $1,000 for them on Socon or Bust during this week, which of course, is not too far away from Christmas, a time to give alms to the poor. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s slow going, but we picked up a bid on the Sens tickets and a couple of donations. But there are two other items which are still great deals which have no bids yet.  If you are not interested in making a bid, then consider a donation which is tax receiptable.  Remember, today is the Feast of St. Nicholas and Catholics are morally obligated to give alms to the poor…

Times are tough raising money with the economy and all, but times are tougher for the poor kids in the Global South.  When I think of the millions wasted on the abortion pimps,  “eco-justice” and “gender mainstreaming” by the CanChurch Professionals in this country, when the money could have gone to legitimate poverty relief, it makes my blood boil with anger.  And it should make your blood boil too.  You should be outraged and disgusted by it, and we need to send a message to the professionals that they’re no longer driving the bus.

If you’ve appreciated the work of Socon or Bust through the years, even a little bit, please consider donating. Even $10 is better than nothing. Everything helps. Thanks for your support.*** Please note: Once you have made a donation, please let us know the amount you have contributed by e-mail.  All donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Children of Paraguay would like to send out a grateful thank you to everyone who attended our Annual Fundraiser at Dovercourt over the weekend. We raised $5,175, which brings us to $28,175 of our $60,000 goal for our multi-usage community center.

The entertainment from the various dancers, representing different cultures in the world was well worth the price of admission alone, never mind the glorious food which was offered!  Click below to view the pictures from the evening. Click below to view the pictures from the evening.
