I’ve just learned that the bishop of St. Jean-Longueuil, the Most Rev. Jacques Berthelet, will be stepping down in a few months because of cancer. I grew up in that diocese (in the southern suburbs of Montreal) and Bishop Berthelet was my bishop for a few years before I moved to Ottawa. May God bless him in this difficult time. I wish all the best to him and his family.
As the new Prefect for the Congregation of Bishops, our beloved Marc Cardinal Ouellet will be responsible for finding the successor to Msgr. Berthelet. And so it begins. As Canadian bishops retire over the next few years, Cardinal Ouellet is going to be replacing them with good, orthodox bishops that will help renew our Church.
May the Lord guide the good Cardinal in his discernment! Please pray for him!
