February 28, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P) has removed a webpage that advertised its sponsorship of a pro-abortion organization, but continues to block LifeSiteNews’ Freedom of Information request seeking a list of organizations funded by the aid agency.

On January 14, LifeSiteNews (LSN) reported that the Mexican Center for Economic and Political Investigation for Community Action (CIEPAC), which was advertised by D&P as an aid recipient, was condemned for its pro-abortion stance by the Bishop of San Cristobal de las Casas in the state of Chiapas, where the group is located.

Following the article, D&P’s communications officer, Kelly Di Domenico, responded with an email stating that “the information on our website regarding the Mexican organization Center for Economic and Political Investigation for Community Action (CIEPAC) was out-of-date, as we are in the process of changing our programming. This organization is no longer one of Development and Peace’s partners.”

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and the website has been updated,” she added.

However, when asked repeatedly if D&P would permit the release of information showing the organizations it funds and the amounts allocated to each recipient, Di Domenico did not respond….(Source)

Just when is this cat and mouse game going to end?  Does Development & Peace believe that this hiding information from Cathoics helps their image and transparency issues?

I guess the drugs from the 60s must have been particularly heavy.  The after-effects have yet to wear off.

Baby Joseph Maraachli: Ontario’s Anti-Family Health‘Care’

February 26, 2011, London, ON London Health Sciences Centre’s dealing with baby Joseph is disrespectful of the family!

Thirteen-month old Joseph Maraachli has a rare neurological disease. He is currently in at the London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario receiving medical treatment. Joseph’s parents, Sana Nader and Moe Maraachli, had requested that hospital perform a tracheotomy on Joseph so that he could go home to pass away in his home under the care of his parents. The parents believe with a tracheotomy, their son could breathe and live out the remainder of his little life from the comfort of his home. The hospital denied them this request.

Health care officials determined that Baby Joseph should be taken off his ventilator. A judge then compelled Moe Maraachli to comply with the decision to remove his son from the ventilator. Moe Maraachli did what every loving father would do, and would not consent. Joseph’s parents fear that without the ventilator, Joseph will suffocate and die. The hospital moved, then, to have an approval to remove the ventilator without parental consent.

Joseph’s parents tried to get him transferred to a Michigan hospital. On Wednesday, The Children’s Hospital of Michigan contacted the London Health Sciences Centre denying the transfer. The London hospital had been waiting to see if the boy could be transferred before pursuing the option of removing breathing tubes without parental consent. The hospital filed a request to remove the breathing tubes with the Ontario’s Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.

This story is full of twists and turns. sounds like it comes out of an ethics textbook. But it doesn’t; it is a real story with real consequences for a real family. Phil Lees, Leader of the Family Coalition Party is most concerned about the disregard of the input of the parents, “The infringement on parental rights in this case is astounding. That a hospital would seek permission to bypass parents’ wishes and remove their baby’s ventilator is unbelievable. The family accepts that baby Joseph’s condition is terminal, but to actively seek legal support to go against the wishes of the family for a natural, unassisted death is anti-family.”

The family fears Joseph will suffer a painful choking death if the ventilator is removed. They have requested that   doctors perform a tracheotomy on Joseph so they can take him home to die surrounded by family – the hospital has refused.  The family’s Baby daughter, Zina, had a similar condition eight years ago; doctors performed the tracheotomy and Zina lived for six months after being taken home. 

This issue will set a frightening precedent. The result could encourage other health care providers to disregard the life-respecting requests of patients, their families, and those with power of attorney for personal care. We must re-set the moral compass of the health care system. This issue matters to all Ontarians!

Brave new world.

Abortion?  It’s going to be history.

As Socon or Bust readers know, faithful Catholics are under the gun these days.   Unless we are living under a rock, we’ve all noticed that the heat is being turned up on faithful Catholics and the pro-life movement.  It’s all around us.  They’re trying to shut us down.  Do you know why? Because the pro-life movement is making some real gains in society.  And the other side is very scared. They are losing, and they are doing everything they can to hang on to something that they see slipping away. In fact, we’re starting to take the game to them.  Forget playing defense, we’re on the offensive now.

That’s true in the Catholic Church too.  As the Catholic Church goes, so goes the pro-life movement.  The battle in society over abortion is mirrored in the disputes within the Catholic Church as well, as “progressives” and “conservatives” fight for influence among its 1 billion + members.  Even the Vatican is taking a more hardline view on social issues at the U.N., much to the chagrin of the Marshmallow peddlers in the Church.

In Canada and indeed around the world, Real Catholics^TM are starting to put the boot to the social justice cabal which has ruled the Church for over 40 years.   Readers will, of course, remember the success of small pro-life and Catholic news agencies along with a rag-tag collection of a few bloggers and the role they played in stopping the blood money flow to the pro-abort partners of Development & Peace.  There was no admission of wrong-doing from the bureacracies involved, of course, but no one can deny that D&P’s sexual orientation was reversed significantly as a result of the exposure to the truth.  (There’s still plennnnty of problems with this organization and the remaining groups it sponsors, but it appears that the most outrageous pro-aborters have had their funding cut.) Just this past week, for instance, we also learned about Caritas Internationalis, the global co-ordinating body of the social justice clique in the Church, is undergoing a change in top management too.  It seems that the Vatican has finally figured out that perhaps these pseudo-Catholic organizations needed to actually apply Catholic teaching and principles a  little more strenuously in practice.  Of course, in its research, Socon or Bust, had long suspected major problems at the top level. This past November, I wrote this:

The jig is finally up, and so is Development & Peace’s number.   The other unforeseen benefit is that the re-orientation of Development & Peace’s socialist principles might even have international repercussions, as the CCCB curiously alluded to in their media release:  “Among other points made by the Ad Hoc Committee was that Caritas Internationalis and CIDSE (an international alliance of Catholic development agencies) have been following the current CCODP renewal process with considerable interest.” After we are finished with Development & Peace, perhaps it’s time for concerned Catholics to “go international” and start shining the spot light on these international church “social justice” organizations too.  The rot, my friends, goes very, very wide and deep indeed.

In the context of this battle within the Church, Socon or Bust readers will remember the disgraceful actions of Salt + Light TV which chose not to pursue the obvious problems with Development & Peace when the controversy was swirling all around them, but instead chose to provide D&P with cover and legitimacy throughout the whole abortion scandal.  Even when the jig was up, admission of the truth and their scandalous witness was hard to come by.

Well…we know now who was right in the end, who was Faithful to the Gospel, and who didn’t drink the Koolaid, don’t we? Disinterested and “neutral” observers should keep the sad spectacle of Development & Peace front and center in their minds when they consider the claims and pronouncements of Fr. Rosica against and over LifeSite News or even this Blog.  It’s all about credibility.  Some of us peddle bulldung and some of us call it out. We’ll let our readers decide who represents which constituency.

I have been an S+L fan for many yrs – I have subscribed to them and EWTN on Bell Expressvu. Sadly, EWTN is being cancelled by Bell (probably for some nefarious reason). (BTW, we are moving ALL our services away from Bell so we can continue to get EWTN)
  
I have been having increasing problems with S+L over the last while though. There was an open dispute with Lifesitenews a year ago. Sadly, Fr Rosica has decided to re-open that dispute by using The Toronto (Red) Star (see their “Atkinson Principles”) to attack what he called Taliban Catholics.  To have The Star (pro-abortion, pro-SSM, etc) praise S+L is not a good sign in my books; it probably means that S+L has become to friendly with the world. Father Rosica seems quite proud of their support as you can see from the letter below.
 
In addition, S+L had a webcast this week with Fr Rosica and a Rabbi (great!) and an Imam. Given that Islam can’t even get basic facts straight on which son Abraham offered to the Father (they mistakenly believe it to be Ishmael and celebrate Eid around that belief), I doubt there is anything to be learned from them. The webcast looked like a VisionTV show!
 
As well, last yr before the G20 summit, they covered a World Religions Summit in Winnipeg and were most complimetary of Jim Wallis (of Sojourners, a George Soros backed organization)

I have loved many S+L documentaries and own several of their DVDs. I also realize the benefits of having a Catholic TV presence offering Daily Mass etc on TV.
 
However, my prudential judgement is that my family can no longer financially support them and I will be giving my money instead to LifesiteNews in order to help them defend themselves against “Father” Gravel. I realize that others may come to opposite decisions, but I thought I would share my reasoning and concerns

We have suffered discrimination and intimidation, we have been arrested and threatened and we are seeking restitution,” said Ruth Lobo, President of Carleton Lifeline. “The University’s discriminatory actions are shocking, to say the least. We want to ensure, through law, that this behaviour is not repeated at Carleton University ever again.”…

Shame on Carleton University.  Nevermind blackening these students’ records with boorish threats.  It will take a lot longer to shake Censorship U.’s reputation after this is all said and done.

Story here and here.  Ouellet is making his moves to transform the Church in Quebec and by extention Canada.  (And there were two appointments. Not just one.)  These ones were relatively easy. He chose his own guys from Quebec City.  Montreal will be the real test.

Although this is great news, the pro-life community wants to see results and real action from the Primate.  Not just smiles and waves.
